W John G. Shedd Aquarium Chicago, Illinois
The John G. Shedd Aquarium is a historical landmark situated on the City of Chicago's picturesque Lake Michigan waterfront. The Shedd Aquarium has long been a showcase for environmental practices throughout the facility and behind the scenes. That is why when the Shedd Aquarium's roofing system was in dire need of repair, they chose the Conquest® to solve their multiple roofing problems.
Three versions of the ELMS ""system have been used in the project. The first two projects that were completed in 2003 were designed to restore the existing 15+ year old smooth modified bitumen roof on the oceanarium section as well as the 12+ year old single ply roofing system over the west entrance to the facility. By restoring these roofs, the Shedd extended the life of their existing roofing system that provided both a 100% waterproofing seamless membrane that help to lower the facilities energy costs as well. In the spring of 2004, a full Green Products Roofing System will be installed on the oldest section of the building. After a major roof tear off is completed, HCFC Free green polyiso insulation and 95% recycled recovery board will be installed in conjunction with a reinforced multi-ply Conquest® system.
The Shedd Aquarium project is just one example of how Green Products is helping change the roofing industry through environmentally friendly and energy efficient roofing solutions that make conventional roofing sense.
