Code of Ethics & Questions for the Roofing Industry
When it comes to buying a new roof the most important decision you make is not the product but the roofing company you choose to do business with. We're here to help you make a sound decision on your next roofing project. Now you'll know for sure whether the roofing company you are considering doing business with meets certain ethical standards. We believe we are the best when it comes to home improvement projects such as metal roof systems. The reason is simple: we meet all of the following reasonable, common sense criteria.
Use this Code of Ethics as a tool to educate yourself on how things work in the roofing industry. When calling a roofing company, use these questions to help you determine which company you want to do business with for your roofing project.

Conquest Consulting... Certified Installers
We only use qualified installers. They are licensed, bonded, certified and approved by the manufactures of the roofing systems they install.
All Installers Are Certified and Approved Applicators by the Manufacturer
Anyone that installs a roof should be a certified and approved installer for the specific roof system being installed. This is a self-evident piece of common sense that should go without saying. However, installers of many of today's roof systems are simply not certified and approved by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, if a problem develops with a roof that was installed by someone not properly certified and approved by the manufacturer to install their roof system, the warranty could be made null and void. All roofers are licensed, bonded, and insured. Unfortunately a business license and a bond does not mean the installer is actually qualified to install the type of roof a home owner may be considering purchasing. Unqualified installers have no business being in the roof installation business. This goes for everyone on the roof doing the installation.
Ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to about Installer Certifications
"Do you certify in writing that everyone installing a roof is certified and approved by the manufacturer to install that particular roof? And do you show your customers, in writing, where the manufacturer has certified each person who will be installing the roof?"
Conquest Consulting... Separate Disposal Fees
We always keep the cost of disposal separate so that the old roofing debris can be taken care of in the least expensive way possible. You'll see the invoice.
A Roofing Company Should Only Charge for Actual Disposal Fees
A fee is charged when old roofing material is removed and taken away. There can be a vast difference between the price the roofing company charges their customer for disposal and the actual fee charged by the landfill. It is not unusual for a roofing company to charge a disposal fee based upon the estimated weight of a wet roof, which is up to four times heavier than dry roofing debris.
Ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to about Disposal Fees
"Do you provide your customers with a copy of the direct invoice from the refuse company that shows what the exact disposal fee is? If the actual disposal fee is less than the amount you charge, do you refund the difference?"
Conquest Consulting... Repair Anything Damaged on the Job
We care about our clients, so naturally we care about their stuff. If we break anything while on the job we pay to fix it.
The Roofing Company Should Pay for Damage it Causes
Most residential driveways are not constructed to withstand the weight carried by the trucks that deliver residential roofing materials. The roofing company should warn the home owner of possible damages to the driveway when the supply truck makes its delivery and/or protect the client, in writing, against such damages. You're not paying to have your driveway damaged!
Ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to Who Covers Damages on the Job
"Do you inform your customers of the possibility of property damage caused by your roofing material delivery trucks? Have you released the supplier of this potential liability? If so, do you accept responsibility - in writing - for such damages when and if they occur? Also, have you ever had a customer whose driveway was blocked while your company did their roofing job?" Cars need to be able to get in and out of the garage.
Conquest Consulting...If We Underestimate We Cover It
Once in awhile we underestimate on a bid. When that happens we deliver as promised and cover the difference.
The Roofing Company Should Pay for its Own Miscalculations
The roof should be measured by an experienced professional who knows what they are doing. Incorrect measurements can be a source of serious cost overruns.
Ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to Who Pays For Their Miscalculations
"How do you ensure that you will not incorrectly measure my roof? Part of a buying decision is based upon an accurate measurement of the roof. If more material is required because of a measurement error, will you charge me for your mistake?"
Conquest Consulting...We Pay For Any Oversights We Make
We always pay for any and all oversights on our part. It's part of being professional and ethical.
The Roofing Company Should Pay for its Own Mistakes
If the roofing company makes a mistake in bidding a project, the home owner should not be forced to pay for it. And when the roofing company finds that they are not able to finish the job to the original scope of work that was promised, the roofing company should pay for these kinds of miscalculations and overruns as well, not the homeowner. When the homeowner signs on the dotted line, the agreed-to price should be honored regardless of mistakes made by the roofing company.
Question to ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to
"Do you cover the cost of any change orders that are your fault? When a change order is required, do customers have to "battle" you in order to get you to pay for the overruns?"
Conquest Consulting... We Send You a Rebate Check If We Save Money on Your Job
After the job is completed, if we find we were able to do the project for less money we send the client a rebate check, no questions asked. 8 Out of 10 Conquest Consulting clients receive a rebate check.
Unused Material Rebate
Sometimes at the end of a roofing job there may be a small amount of material that goes unused and is returned. If that material is returned, the fair thing to do on the part of the roofing company is to give the customer a refund or a credit.
Question to ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to
"How many times have you given a rebate to a customer for any unused materials on my roofing job? (Wait for a response ) Would you be willing to give me the names and phone numbers of any of these customers so that I can confirm this?"
Conquest Consulting... Financing - No Kickbacks
We help clients as they work with the lender, but we don't receive kick backs on their financing.
A Roofing Company is not a Financing Company
Some roofing companies add points to the interest rate charged by the finance company when a new roof is financed. Depending upon the amount of money being financed, roofing companies that add points to a loan receive thousands of dollars more than they actually earned for the roofing job.
Question to ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to
"Has your company ever added points to the loan for a roofing job?"
Conquest Consulting... Your Materials Are Paid For With Your Money
Conquest Consulting is a debt free company with extremely low overhead. Therefore, we never get behind the 8-ball in terms of paying our bills; paying for yesterday's job with today's resources. Your job is paid for with your money. No liens. You'll get it in writing.
All Supplier Invoices Should be Paid BEFORE the Job Starts
The roofing company should pay all supplier invoices for all the necessary roofing materials BEFORE the job begins. This ensures that you the home owner, don't have a lien placed on your house by the supplier after the job has been completed. It is not ethical for the roofing company to collect all the money for a new roof and to delay full payment for all supplies.
Question to ask Every Roofing Company you Talk to
"When someone buys a roof from your company do you show the customer written proof that the final payment for all materials has been made before the project begins?"
We think we're the best and least expensive, and we think it's fair to give you enough information to decide for yourself.
